The WEEE Society

Technological advancement has increased the usage of the electronic devices among the mass population. End of the life-cycle discarded electrical and electronics products have environmental and social impact. WEEE Society is working to create awareness and professional waste management. The aim is to ensure the waste collection processing, recycling and proper management effectively to save natural resources like air, water, soil and human.
Every year, hundreds of tones worth of smartphones, tablets, laptops, headphones and many more are stopped being used or thrown away completely because they’re either outdated, broken or get unusable.

Objective & Purpose

    To develop social awareness of the environmental impacts of Electrical and Electronic Waste (including battery).

    To avoid accumulation of non-biodegradable e-Waste in the environments (Soil, Water, Air).

    To reduce the amount of Electrical and Electronic waste that goes to landfills. This could be achieved using said Society when we place an Extended Producer Responsibility [ERP] on producers and distributors & beneficial Organizations of electrical and electronic equipment.

    To Minimize Human health risks of discarded obsolete Electrical and Electronic products with formal recycling.

    To develop and recommend the policies so that formal industrial collection, reuse, recovery, and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment so that society can contribute circular economy and save critical raw material.

    To Facilitate Develop legislation on producers to be responsible for their items when they become obsolete.

    To Support local organization to Develop local policy so that formal collection, transportation, warehousing, transportation, refining industry can be developed cost-effective, environmentally sound processes to recycle e-waste (including lithium-ion batteries).

    Liaison with the local and global Forums to share / exchange knowledge / expertise for further improvement of policies, regulations, and formal collection facilities etc.

    To facilitate idea generation, incubating new entrepreneurs, supporting traditional entrepreneurs to increase circularity of value chain of different industries responsible for producing e-waste.

    To engage directly into value chain activities to increase efficiency, sustainability, circularity of the same through investing in companies and/or initiating separate entrepreneurial entities.

    Develop appropriate environmental assessment, implementation and monitoring activities related to different waste collection methodologies and the respective benefits to improve current waste management practices.

    To take up different projects for the welfare, development, and rehabilitation of downtrodden under privileged sections of People as Integrated Agricultural Development Program, Awareness Creation Women and Children Project, Training for Working Children Project, community or urban waste management capacity Development Project, Livelihood Supports Program, Children Rehabilitation Project, Dwelling Houses Building for Affected Families, Old Age Welfare Project, and Ideal Village Project. These would be encourage citizen to minimize use of earth’s limited resource, reduce soil, water and air contamination.

    To establish and / or support or aid in the establishment and support of associations, institutions, provident or other funds, trusts and conveniences calculated to benefit the employees, ex-employees of Waste Electrical and Electronics Equipment’s Society their dependents of such persons or the larger mass as may be decided by the Society

    Work in close cooperation or jointly with similar organization or organizations whether government, non-government, private, national, NGOs or international organization which are pursuing similar objectives.

    Establish branch offices of the society in any place in Bangladesh for managing its affairs as may be determined by the society.
